Doraku on the West Side

Making Friends With Food

Doraku Kapolei brings the popular sushi restaurant to the Leeward neighborhood of O’ahu. The fun and lively atmosphere is the gathering place for locals and visitors looking for authentic modern Izakaya-style cuisine and handcrafted cocktials

Step Into Japan

Restaurateur Kevin Aoki incorporates his love for architecture and design with an   Japanese dining experience for the growing Kapolei community. The 5,000 square foot space is complete with a spacious L-shaped sushi bar, communal table, indoor pergolas, and a lanai dining area (with cigars after 8:00 p.m.). The restaurant’s theme resembles the traditional alleyways in Shibuya and Shinjuku with stone buddha statues, floating lanterns, neon signs, and Sake barrels. Features that are unique to Doraku Kapolei include custom-made lounge chairs designed by Kevin himself, a bar created from recycled copper, and blow-torched plywood walls aka Shou Sugi Ban (charred wood planks), which replicate the famous “Sumiya” building in Kyoto, Japan.

Bringing “New Life” to Reclaimed Material

Kevin describes Doraku Kapolei as a “blooming flower that has survived many obstacles.” To represent the resilience of the Aoki Group, he repurposed materials that were once used in abandoned buildings in East and Southeast Asia. Chairs, tables, and other furniture have been re-constructed utilizing 75-year-old reclaimed wood. The sleek gray cement textured walls are made from repurposed brick. Custom-designed resin lanterns which float from the ceiling are from the first flagship Doraku Sushi location in Miami, Florida.

The Legacy Continues

Both locals and visitors can expect a wide range of sushi, grilled items, vegan/vegetarian options, and popular signature dishes, including the Garlic Hamachi and Spicy Ahi Tuna Deluxe Maki Rolls, Wagyu Steak Fried Rice served tableside, and classic cocktails suh as the Lychee Martini, along with new drinks explicitly invented for the Kapolei crowd.

Your New Favorite Hangout
